Hello there one and all, allow myself to introduce myself; my name is Dave, an associate of your favorite rock trio and mine, 28N. This journal entry was supposed to be done around a week or so ago, but my rigorous work schedule at college was keeping me mighty busy. So here's the rundown of what happened when 28N rocked the house in Fredonia, NY on Feb. 4th and Boston, MA on Feb. 11th.
It all started off in Fredonia when 28N made a return to their old stomping grounds. It was a special evening for everybody involved, as former lead axe Rio joined the band onstage for rocking renditions of old favorites such as Sleepwalker and The Dive, along with playing soon to be classics So Predictable and (A) Song. Muldoon's rocked well into the night, even after the band had finished their set along and a few encores that they hid up their sleeve. I'd like to thank everyone that came to that show, along with the 34 Gardener Crew for coming back and 28N sponsor E.A. Sauers making a surprise appearance; it was nice to see everybody again. After the show was over and done with Rio, Nate, Lowell and myself were invited back to The Best Western to trash hotel rooms and party all night long. Much to our shagrin there was no trashing of any hotel rooms, perhaps next time; but a good time was still had by all.
The rest of the weekend was dedicated to having a good time and taking it easy. On Saturday Rio, Nate, Lowell and myself made a trip to Pennsylvania to purchase some alcohol for Rio & Rob's highly anticipated Super Bowl party. We returned back to Fredonia and started the evening off right with a few beers at Rio's homestead. A slew of people convened at 40 Center later that evening to drink some brew and put ourselves in the right mindset before enjoying the night scene in Fredonia. As the evening progressed, our minds and behavior digressed; let's just blame it on over indulgence. But it was a fun evening nonetheless. Sunday rolled around and most of the day was wasted on watching hours upon hours of Super Bowl pre-game coverage and recovering from the night before. For the game we went over Rio & Rob's for thier extravaganza and I must say that it was the best Super Bowl party that I've been to; too bad the game wasn't as good. After the game I bid adieu to Nate, Lowell and Eric; it was nothing too emotional, we were all heading to Boston next weekend.
On Thursday night Dustin and I began the journey to Boston and headed for Rochester so that we could spend the evening at Pat's house and pick up the rest of the motley crew that were also making the trek. Early Friday morning, Dustin, Jeff, Pat, Tim L. and I left for what we though was going to be around a 6 hour drive. We made a pit stop in Syracuse so that we could get a bite to eat, and the only place to eat in the Carousel Mall is Hooters...; ) The weird thing was that there was quite a few women and children eating there when we walked in, I'm not quite sure what that was all about. After gorging ourselves with the finest meats and cheeses, we continued on our way. After smooth sailing all the way through New York and Massachusetts, we hit one massive traffic jam getting off the Turnpike. Some people couldn't control themselves during this hour wait and proceeded to urinate in a Gatorade bottle and another decided that relieving themselves on the off ramp in a traffic jam was a good idea; I won't name names though. We finally made it to Jeff's friend Kristen's house just in time to get ready for the show and to get some drinks in us so that we would be in prime cheering condition when we arrived at the show. After getting off of the subway, we were about five to six blocks away from the bar that 28N was playing at and figured that we had plenty of time to make it their. That was until Eric gave us a call and let us know that the band was about four songs into their set; after hearing that, Dustin, Pat, Tim L. and I sprinted the rest of the way to the bar. This was definitely more exercise than I had anticipated on this trip and I needed an oxygen tank when I arrived at the Skybar. When we arrived at the bar, 28N had half their set left; which was disappointing because we wanted to see the entire show, but at least we still got to see some of it. 28N sounded phenomenal and rocked their asses for the crowd of strangers that greeted the bands music with enthusiastic roars of approval. 28N and their two crews from NYC and Fredonia hung around the Skybar to listen to the rest of the bands and to do some drinking; and let me tell you, it doesn't get much better than drinking Magic Hat #9 on tap. Dustin, Jeff, Pat, Tim L. and I, under the guidance of our tour guide Kristen, left the Skybar and went to Quincy Market to see what other Boston bars had to offer us. The other bar that we went to offered us a bouncer that hated New Yorkers and their ID's and a last call at 1:30 a.m. On the bright side, I was with good friends, we got to see some historical sites in Boston and I had my picture taken with a statue of Red Auerbach (he coached the Boston Celtics in the 50's and 60's for those of you who don't know who he is). After we left the bar, we met back up with everyone else at Dayle's house, where we played board games until the wee hours of morn.
After saying goodbye to everybody on Saturday morning and thanking them for a wonderful weekend, the fivesome that made the long journey from western NY were ready to leave Boston and head back home. But before we left, we decided that we wanted to have a tour of Fenway Park, home of the 2004 World Series Champions the Boston Red Sox. I would recommend taking tours of baseball parks, very interesting; but that's just one man's opinion. The trip to Boston is not one that I will soon forget and I'd like to thank Dustin for driving, Kristen and Dayle for letting people crash at their places and 28N for rocking; make sure to catch a show soon, because you won't regret it.
Keep on Rockin' in a Free World,
Dave
